A campsite open in OctoberUntil 1 November 2026, above the Channel: indoor water park heated to 30 °C and heated cottages
In October, the Bessin empties and the light changes. The campsite, however, stays open: the water park stays heated, the bar-restaurant keeps serving, the kids' clubs run five days a week, and the D-Day beaches are all yours.
Camping Portland's 2026 season runs from 3 April to 1 November, and the 2027 season from 2 April to 7 November: we are not open all year round, but we stay open during the autumn half-term holidays, from 17 October to 1 November 2026. It is probably the most pleasant time of year for anyone who dislikes crowds: the paths are quiet, the beach at Port-en-Bessin is deserted, Omaha Beach and Bayeux can be visited without queuing, and the pool water stays at 30 °C. These last two weeks take on Halloween colours.

What a late-season stay changes

A peaceful end of season, between the pond and the sea
In October, the Bessin changes pace: the days are cool and bright, the big autumn tides uncover the foreshore, and the beach at Port-en-Bessin, between its two cliffs, empties for good. You walk down to the harbour to watch the fishing boats come in, follow the coastal path towards Omaha Beach, and head back to warm up when the wind picks up.
At the campsite, the pace follows suit: fewer people on the paths, free loungers by the pool, a table at the restaurant without waiting. For many families, that's the reason to come at this time of year rather than in August.

30 °C in the water, even at the end of October
The water park stays heated until the last day of the season: an indoor pool under the glass roof and the palm trees, a counter-current river, a 90 m² bubble bath and a water play area for the little ones. Outside, the wind may blow over the Channel; in the water, it's always summer.
The children go from water games to the river, the parents settle into the bubble bath. At this time of year, the pools are calm: you can swim in peace, far from the summer crowds.

Heated cottages, and camping still possible
When evening comes, you push open the cottage door and it's cosy inside: heating, equipped kitchen, separate bedrooms and bathroom. For four to eight people, there's room for the whole family, and in every category except the 3-flower cottages, bed linen and towels are provided. The terrace takes care of the rest: afternoon snacks, hot chocolate, boots drying.
The pitches stay open until closing day, with heated sanitary facilities and, for the Premium pitches, a private bathroom: coming with a tent, van or motorhome in October is perfectly possible here, as long as you like crisp mornings and sunsets over the Channel.

The bar-restaurant serves until closing day
Many campsites close their services as soon as summer ends. Here, the bar-restaurant, voted Yelloh! Restaurant in 2024 and 2025, serves lunch and dinner, seven days a week, until the last day of the season: lunch on the way back from Omaha Beach, dinner on site on a rainy evening, a drink while the children finish their game in the games room.
Morning bread and pastries, as well as the convenience grocery shop, also save you the shopping: when the seafront terraces start to close, there's still a table just steps from your cottage.

The kids' clubs stay open, and Halloween is coming
Club Kids welcomes 5-7 year-olds and Club Juniors 8-12 year-olds, five days a week, from 10 am to 12 noon and from 2 pm to 4 pm, included in your stay, with no paid registration. In the late season, the groups are smaller: the entertainers have time.
During the autumn half-term holidays, the programme takes on Halloween colours: pumpkin workshops, a sweet hunt, a fancy-dress party. And for outings in the region, our ideas are gathered on the page what to do during the autumn holidays in Normandy.
Cottages and pitches open until the last day
The cottages, the cottage adapted for people with reduced mobility and the pitches stay open until closing on 1 November 2026.
The autumn half-term holidays are the most popular dates of the late season, and many families come back year after year: it's best to check availability before making plans. And if the urge strikes at the last minute, the page last-minute camping in Normandy gathers the right reflexes for booking quickly.
